Nesibe needed a win to extend their season on Friday and Alaina Coates tried to keep them in it, but Fenerbahce completed the sweep with a 100-78 win.  It was Orman’s turn to try to avoid being swept on Saturday and Sevgi Uzun led them in scoring, but Cukurova proved to be too much to handle and they lost 80-51.  Both series ending in sweeps also has the effect of allowing the championship series to start earlier with Fenerbahce hosting on Tuesday.

After a scare in the first game, Fenerbahce reverted to their main foreigner lineup on Tuesday and Satou Sabally made sure that there would be no repeat in a 97-62 win over Nesibe.  Orman was much more competitive on Wednesday, but DeWanna Bonner proved to be the Cukurova player that they had no answer for again and they lost 75-68.  The teams get an extra day of rest as they swap venues for the next games so it will be Friday and Saturday when teams look to either sweep or extend their seasons.

Series continued on Monday, but a great game from Alexis Prince was not enough for Cankaya University to avoid being swept by Fenerbahce after an 86-65 loss.  The next opponent for the top seed will be Nesibe, which prevailed in a nervy affair 53-49 over Galatasaray.  Sweeps continued on Tuesday with an easy 83-57 win for Cukurova over Bursa.  That trend changed in the next game when Botas did enough in the second half to extend their season, winning 83-77 even though Sevgi Uzun helped out Teaira McCowan for Orman, which will host the last game on Friday.

Turkish League Round 26 April 19th

April 19, 2022

The final round was played on Tuesday, but not with simultaneous tipoffs.  Temi Fagbenle and Cukurova clinched the second seed with a 73-53 win over Bursa.  That result meant that Orman could not move up a seed, but they still needed to make sure that they would not drop a spot against their direct rivals and Teaira McCowan helped them edge out Nesibe 64-63.  Tan White and Alexis Prince were fantastic for Cankaya University, which grabbed the last playoff spot with a 95-72 win over Jelena Dubljevic and Botas.  The three teams that were still in danger played at the same time and Brooque Williams and Kayseri were looking to take matters into their own hands early, but Tina Krajisnik and Galatasaray left with a 78-72 win.  They still ended up being safe after Viktoria Mircheva and Izmit lost to Fenerbahce 105-68.  Antalya made sure that they had no chance of joining Elazig in the drop, winning 67-60 over Chanel Mokango and company.  Neither team had a playoff place left to play for so they put on a show to end the season as Meighan Simmons and Besiktas got the 96-88 win, but Aaryn Ellenberg-Wiley pushed her average up in winning the scoring title and Busra Akbas also had a good game for Hatay.
