Finals:

The playoffs started on Friday as conditions in Taiwan continued to allow the end portion of the season to be held in an arena instead of the gymnasium that hosted the early portion of the season and increasing numbers of fans were able to attend.  There was no suspense in Game 1 as Lin Yu-Tin led Cathay Life Insurance past Taiyuan Textile 87-44.  The series concluded on Saturday with Taiyuan Textile keeping it respectable, but losing to Cathay Life Insurance 82-62.  Chen Yu-Chun paced the champions on her way to the Finals MVP award.

The consolation series was also played over the weekend as the first game of each day.  On Friday, Chunghwa Telecom took care of business with a 52-43 win over Taiwan Power.  On Saturday, Taiwan Power looked set to extend the series, but Chunghwa Telecom used a strong second half to win 71-67 and avoid a deciding game.

After a long break, the final week of the regular season started on Thursday.  Cheng I-Hsiu led Cathay Life Insurance to another win as they breezed past Taiyuan Textile 93-58.  Su Yi-Rou and Taiwan Power continued to challenge the teams in the middle, but Huang Hsiang-Ting helped Chunghwa Telecom win 68-62.

On Saturday, Lin Yu-Ting nearly scored enough points on her own to win as Cathay Life Insurance breezed past Taiwan Power 98-36.  Lin Wen-Yu and Taiyuan Textile have the advantage heading into the playoffs after beating Chunghwa Telecom 73-56.

The last day of the regular season was Tuesday and neither game was going to have any impact on the final standings.  That showed in the first game as Chunghwa Telecom capitulated in a 74-47 loss to Taiwan Power.  Cathay Life Insurance completed another undefeated regular season with a 104-60 win over Taiyuan Textile.  The playoffs will start this weekend.

After a week of rest, play resumed on Monday.  Liu Hsi-Yeh had a strong game for Taiwan Power, but they lost to Cathay Life Insurance 91-60.  Taiyuan Textile beat Chunghwa Telecom 73-50 as both teams continue their battle for the other spot in the finals.

After a day off, the next pair of games was on Wednesday.  Cheng I-Hsiu fired Cathay Life Insurance past Chunghwa Telecom 94-69.  Liu Hsi-Yeh led Taiwan Power again, this time helping them complete a comeback to upset Taiyuan Textile 64-59 and prove that they are ready to at least compete with the middle two teams and not just roll over every game.

This week of games finished on Thursday with Cathay Life Insurance rolling again, this time past Taiwan Power 93-53.  Chunghwa Telecom fell behind early, but Huang Hsiang-Ting and Lin Yu-Shu helped them send an impressive message to Taiyuan Textile with an 87-58 win.  The teams now get two weeks off before the last week of the regular season.

Basketball leagues around the world are in limbo at this time, but play did start in Taiwan this week.  The Women’s Super Basketball League has four corporate-sponsored teams and their regular season will have a fifteen game season with games played at a neutral site with no fans.  Starting later this year might have created the opportunity to bring in some of the best national team players who usually play on the mainland while their home league is playing, but that did not end up being the case.  Eleven Sports Taiwan is planning on streaming games, which are usually played on Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday at 5pm and 7pm local time or 5am and 7am Eastern Daylight Time, via their YouTube channel.
