Puerto Rican League Finals Game 7 December 13th

An exciting series had its deciding game on Thursday in Carolina.  Tierra Henderson led Manati, but the home teams were strong all series long and it held in the finale as Carolina maintained their dominance with a 71-63 win.  After an amazing start to the season, they had stumbled in the buildup to the postseason and did not sweep their semifinal series, but their mettle showed when it counted.

On Tuesday, it looked like Manati had done enough to force a seventh game, but a fourth quarter collapse meant that they needed overtime to win 73-66 and set up a deciding game on Thursday.  The hosts were led by Pamela Rosado and Kathryn Westbeld.  Carolina will now host the last game of the season on Thursday.

On Sunday, both teams were looking to put themselves one win away from a championship.  Carolina had the lead at halftime, but Tierra Henderson and Kathryn Westbeld helped Manati lead heading into the final period, where the hosts did just enough to win 75-71.  The teams will meet on Tuesday in Manati with the hosts trying to stay alive and the visitors trying to extend their dominance.

The finals continued on Saturday in Manati.  Carolina had an early lead as they were looking to extend their series lead, but the hosts came back behind Kathryn Westbeld to win 67-63 and even the series.  The teams have a quick turnaround for Sunday’s game back in Carolina and now know that there will also be a Game 6 in Manati.

The championship series continued on Thursday with Carolina looking to hold serve at home and Manati looking to eliminate homecourt advantage.  The hosts trailed early, needing to come back to force overtime and win 70-67 behind Whitney Bays.  The teams have one day of rest before returning to Manati on Saturday and then playing in Carolina on Sunday.

The finals continued on Monday in Manati with the hosts looking to even the series.  They built an early lead and then hung on late behind Kathryn Westbeld in a 74-71 win.  The series will shift back to Carolina for the next game on Thursday.

The championship series started on Saturday with Carolina looking to find their early season form again while Manati was looking to keep their recent momentum.  Nicci Gilday had a great shooting display as the hosts took the lead after an even first quarter on their way to a 74-55 win.  The teams will rest for a day before moving to Manati to play the next game.

On Sunday, Carolina bounced back at home to beat Yauco 76-56 and take the series lead.  Yauco must now win at home on Tuesday to extend the series to a deciding game.  On Monday, Manati took care of business at home with a 72-43 win behind Kathryn Westbeld to complete the sweep over Santurce.

Puerto Rican League Semifinals Game 2 November 24th-25th

Both series continued over the weekend as the lower seeds hosted their first games facing a series deficit.  Yauco was up first on Saturday and Chanita Jordan helped them tie up their series with Carolina after a 70-64 win.  On Sunday, Michelle Gonzalez and Santurce fell behind Kathryn Westbeld and Manati and their late rally was not enough.  After the 78-76 loss, they must now win on the road on Monday to extend their season.
