French League Round 12

On Wednesday, the first of a number of Round 7 games rescheduled after the Paris attacks took place with Nice beating Calais 70-66.  The main round started on Saturday as Mondeville beat Calais 74-63.  Charleville beat Lyon 73-69 in a battle of teams in the middle of the standings looking for postseason play.  Lattes Montpellier made sure they would finish the weekend in the lead in winning percentage by taking care of Hainaut 75-47.  Ingrid Tanqueray and Bourges kept pace with a 72-64 win over Nice, which is technically in first place having played one more game.  On Sunday, Villeneuve managed a 59-55 win over Nantes as they also look towards the playoffs.  Tianna Hawkins made her return to basketball for new look Toulouse as they beat Angers 61-48.  The best efforts of Brooque Williams were not enough for last place Arras, which lost 73-60 at Landes.

french leagueOn Saturday, Lyon continued to get strong performances from Lauren Ervin and Latoya Williams as they beat Toulouse 68-53.  Nice edged Villeneuve 57-56 in a battle between teams lurking at the top of the standings.  Pauline Akonga-Nsimbo led Hainaut past Chatilla Van Grinsven and Arras 60-52.  Lattes Montpellier took advantage of other results as their bench led them to a 72-61 win over Charleville and left them all alone in first place.  On Sunday, Bourges managed the 65-61 win over Nantes to pull into second place.  Marie-Bernadette Mbuyamba-Tshimanga and Erin Rooney led Calais past Landes 75-69.  Angers got a perfectly balanced performance from its starters in a 71-65 win over Mondeville.

On Saturday, Kim Mestdagh led Charleville past Nantes 83-56.  Latoya Williams and Mamignan Toure teamed up to fire Lyon past Mondeville 79-63.  Bourges eased past Toulouse 84-40.  Pauline Akonga-Nsimbo helped Hainaut past Nice 70-61.  Villeneuve stayed in contention for the first place with an 81-51 win over Arras.  On Sunday, Calais pulled out of last place with a 69-63 win over Angers.  Lattes Montpellier finishes the week in first place after a 68-49 win at Landes.

The round started on Friday as Latoya Williams and Lauren Ervin led Lyon past Calais 90-44.  On Saturday, Nice continued their strong start to the season with an easy 77-35 win over Toulouse.  Charleville stayed within touching distance of the playoffs with an 81-65 win over Arras behind Amel Bouderra.  Lattes Montpellier ended the weekend in first place as Gaelle Skrela led them past Mondeville 78-60.  Bourges handed Villeneuve its first loss 76-48 as Celine Dumerc called her own number more than usual.  Queralt Casas led Nantes to an 81-76 win over Hainaut as both teams tried to pull away from the bottom of the standings.  On Sunday, Landes beat Arras 66-53.

Round 7 was rescheduled to the next open date, but Round 8 went on as planned.  Mondeville edged Nantes 64-63 in a battle of Plouffe sisters, but it was one of the other Canadians who led the way as Kim Gaucher drove her team to the win.  Lattes Montpellier had to make a big personnel change, but rolled past Toulouse 73-33.  Charleville beat Nice 79-71 and Bourges beat Hainaut 88-66.  In the lower half of the standings, Lyon won at Angers 74-67.  Calais finally got their first win of the season 80-77 over Arras.  Villeneuve just managed to stay unbeaten by escaping Landes 60-59.

There was one game last weekend from Round 1 after the opening game was moved to accommodate the Match of Champions.  With most of the rest of the league concentrating on the French Cup Round of 32, Bourges and Lattes Montpellier played the latest installment of their big rivalry with Lattes Montpellier winning 60-55.

Round 6 started on Friday as Lattes Montpellier built a lead that even an on-fire Latoya Williams could not come back from, winning 80-71.  On Saturday, Bourges kept Calais winless with an overwhelming 92-45 win.  Nice continued their surprising undefeated start by edging Mondeville 85-82.  Sunday action started with Landes beating Hainaut 83-66.  Angers beat Nantes 63-60.  Villeneuve is also unbeaten after taking care of Charleville 68-52.  Arras got their first win of the season after escaping Toulouse 83-81.
