Sichuan needed a win on Sunday to force a deciding game on Tuesday.  They were doing enough to hold a lead behind brilliant efforts from Han Xu and Li Meng, but Yang Liwei and Shen Yi helped Inner Mongolia fight back and clinch the championship with an 87-86 win.  They denied the public a chance to see one more titanic clash between the teams, but quickly realized all of their ambitions a short time after joining the league.

The championship series started on Friday with the two expected teams battling for the trophy.  Inner Mongolia was disappointed by their regular season showing in this matchup with Li Yueru not having her best game and that changed in this game as it was her turn to win the battle in the paint in a 75-70 final.  Li Meng and Sichuan will try to even the series on Sunday.

The single elimination round started with a pair of games on Monday.  Hubei only made it because the student team was not eligible for the playoffs and they lost in the first game 102-71 to Xinjiang, which got a rare offensive outburst from Chen Mingling.  Liu Jiacen and Shanxi edged Beijing 66-60 in the other game.  On Tuesday, Zhang Zhiting and Shanghai defeated Hebei 74-61 in the first game.  Wan Jiyuan and Dong Keer had good games for Zhejiang, but Chang Chi-Fang and Guangdong still won 89-78.

Chinese League Round 17 December 17th-18th

December 18, 2021 by Andrew

The last round of the regular season started on Friday.  Sichuan was already set in their place so they mostly coasted in a 90-73 win over Peng Szu-Chin, Han Ziqi, and Tianjin.  Zhang Zhiting made sure that Heilongjiang finished winless 101-45.  The student team experiment certainly added some competitiveness to the league when they desperately needed it as Xiong Zhongyi led them past Hubei 80-60.  Jiangsu used a strong second half to win 77-51 over Shanxi.  Inner Mongolia was still trying to send some messages before the playoffs and sped past Xinjiang 102-60.  The final day of the regular season was Saturday and Tang Yu led Beijing past Shaanxi 94-74.  Dong Keer fired Zhejiang past Hebei 88-57.  Chang Chi-Fang paced Guangdong in a 90-63 win over Fujian.  The last game was Shandong’s 89-65 win over Liaoning.

Chinese League Round 16 December 15th-16th

December 16, 2021 by Andrew

A new round started on Wednesday with a remarkable performance from behind the arc as the student team let Zhang Jingyi launch at more than a shot a minute and she hit 16 times for a 50 point outburst in their 96-73 win over Shanghai.  Chen Liyu and Inner Mongolia bounced back from their loss in the big game by crushing Hubei 92-37.  Wang Xuemeng and Wu Tongtong teamed up to lead Shanxi past Han Ziqi, Peng Szu-Chin, and Tianjing 78-65.  Heilongjiang only one more chance for a win after losing to Beijing 97-59.  Sichuan continued to assert their dominance as Sun Mengran and Han Xu led them past Yang Luchenhong and Xinjiang 130-69.  Thursday started with a great game as Zhang Min and Wang Jiaqi helped Zhejiang hold off Xu Chenyan and Jiangsu 92-89.  Guangdong beat Shaanxi 84-66.  Hebei had the better start, but Yang Hengyu and Shandong controlled the rest of the game in a 90-63 win.  Xing Jinbo and Ha Yueming fired Liaoning past Wei Yu-Chun and Fujian 79-54.

Chinese League Round 15 December 13th-14th

December 14, 2021 by Andrew

A new round started on Monday with Ma Zhuo and Tianjin falling to Zhejiang 102-80.  The student team is still firmly in the top eight after beating Beijing 75-55.  Shanghai had a balanced effort with a good start, but they had to fend off Chen Yen-Yu and Hubei to hang on to an 80-79 win.  A battle of two of the more entertaining players in the league went to Wang Lili and Xinjiang 83-53 over Wu Tongtong and Shanxi.  That set up the game of the season between the last two undefeated teams and the main title contenders and it more than lived up to the hype as Han Xu and Li Meng helped Sichuan edge Yang Liwei, Huang Sijing, and Inner Mongolia 87-84.  On Tuesday, Tian Yangyang and Heilongjiang lost again, this time to Guangdong 92-76.  In the battle for third place, Wang Yingzhu and Cao Junwei led Shandong past Jiangsu 102-80.  Hu Yueming and Liaoning edged Li Zhijun and Shaanxi 75-69.  The round finished with a 73-61 Hebei win over Fujian.

The round started with a great game on Saturday as Chen Yen-Yu nearly got Hubei a win, but Beijing held on 74-73.  Wang Lili and Xinjiang used a fast start to win 96-77 over Wan Jiyuan and Zhejiang.  Yang Shuyu and Guangdong prevented the student team from pulling away from the teams in the middle of the pack by winning 85-71.  Inner Mongolia is still perfect after a 100-74 win over Shanghai.  Han Xu and Sichuan are undefeated too ahead of the big clash as they closed the day with an 84-69 win over Shanxi.  On Sunday, Tang Ziqi and Shandong halted any momentum that Tianjin had built up by crushing them 103-42.  Heilongjiang is running out of chances to get a win as they lost to the team right above them Liaoning 95-61.  Luo Xinyu and Wu Mengjie led Jiangsu past Fujian 100-74.  The round ended with an 84-60 Hebei win over Shaanxi.

Another round started on Thursday with Yu Dong leading Guangdong past Hubei 94-71.  Tang Yu and Beijing edged Shanghai 77-71.  Sichuan is still perfect after a 104-66 win over Zhou Qi and Zhejiang.  The student team moved back into the top 8 with a 93-76 win over Liaoning.  Li Yueru and Inner Mongolia are also still undefeated with an easy 104-62 win over Shanxi.  The first game on Friday was between teams still harboring championship aspirations as Shandong won 77-63 over Xinjiang.  A terrific battle of players from Taiwan had Peng Szu-Chin and Tianjin nearly pulling off another win only to see Wei Yu-Chun get some help from Ma Wen to complete Fujian’s 102-96 comeback win.  Heilongjiang is no closer to a first win after losing to Hebei 82-43.  The round closed with Jiangsu getting an unexpected challenge from Shaanxi, but winning 89-78 behind Jin Weinuo and Luo Xinyu.
