Asian Olympic Qualification Day 3 November 17th

Group A:

The first game in Auckland saw Han Xu and China take care of business with a 127-49 win over the Philippines.  Calculations were being made early and Penina Davidson and New Zealand raced out to a lead, flipping the tiebreakers into their favor, but Kang Lee-Seul and South Korea fought back, trimming the deficit to a level that would see them advance.  The hosts finally showed they could beat the Koreans for the first time since the regions were combined, but a 69-65 margin was not enough to advance.

Group B:

Both games in Kuala Lumpur had no impact on anything.  Chen Wei-An and Taiwan beat India 79-56.  The other game only had psychological implications as Japan was preparing for host duties while Australia was looking to beat their new nemesis after the combination of the regions, but they will have wait longer after falling behind early and losing 82-69.

Both groups started play on Thursday as the teams fight for three spots alongside Japan in the next round.

The first action in the new format came in Auckland and it was a great game as Park Ji-Su and Kim Jung-Eun helped South Korea fend off China 81-80.  The other game was far less dramatic as hosts New Zealand eased past the Philippines 111-54.
