EuroLeague Third Round Recap

October 29, 2015 by Andrew

euroleage 2Games this week got a rare Tuesday start as Castors Braine built a big lead on their Spanish visitors in Belgium on their way to a 73-60 win.  Defending champions USK Praha are still trying to get their healthy full strength roster together as they were unable to win in Orenburg in Russia as Nadezhda held on by a 58-54 margin.  The team they beat in the final, UMMC Ekaterinburg, remains the only unbeaten team after they dominated the second half in Poland to win 88-52 over Wisla Krakow, which stays winless.  An exciting game in France closed Wednesday Group B action as Bourges needed overtime to overcome their visitors from Abdullah Gul University 63-57, earning their first win of the season and handing the Turkish team their first loss.

All of the Group A games were on Wednesday, starting in Russia, where an overwhelming performance by Nneka Ogwumike powered Dynamo Kursk past their Italian visitors 63-58.  It was also close in Slovakia as Good Angels Kosice welcomed Turkey’s Galatasaray and won 54-59.  Sopron built an early lead in Hungary, but Spain’s Avenida fought back and nearly completed a comeback before losing 73-67.  Fenerbahce made the trip from Turkey to France and trailed heading into the final quarter at Villeneuve before a huge run helped them to a 69-55 win to close out another exciting week of EuroLeague action as teams continue to fight for quarterfinal spots.

Nike Basketball Unveils New Women’s Basketball Line!

WNBA’s Connecticut Sun Chiney Ogwumike

After years and years of having to choose from the men’s section when picking out basketball gear NIKE has finally given us women an apparel line made just for us.  The Elite Basketball Collection which was designed for women by women is a combination of four pieces: a contoured tank, lightweight shorts, mesh-paneled hoodie, and a pair of tapered pants. Nike Basketball Global Apparel Director Chris Burke explained that they “did a lot of focus groups with both high school and professional basketball players from across the country to make sure we were creating the right styles and incorporating the wants and needs for the female athlete.” With the popularity of basketball growing around the world and more girls becoming interested in the sport it makes perfect sense to cater to the next generation of basketball players.

Just like non athletes want to look nice and wear fitting, stylish and comfortable clothing to work so do basketball players. Over sized men’s shorts and ill-fitting shirts will be a thing of the past. Female basketball players will now be able to wear performance apparel that caters to their unique shapes and sizes. “This is giving us what we want and need. I have been waiting for this forever.” WNBA all-star from the Tulsa Shock and Nike athlete Skylar Diggnis says about the line. Lets just hope that Nike will continue to add more stylish and comfortable pieces to the collection in the near future. Nike.com and select retailers began selling the collection in September. Check out The Elite Basketball Collection here.
