French League Quarterfinals Game 3 May 13th

Only one series needed a deciding game and it was played on Friday.  Top seed Bourges got one more scare from Lattes Montpellier, but pulled away in the fourth quarter to advance with an 86-69 win as the semifinals start on Tuesday.

The halfway point of this group was reached after the games on Friday with the next games on Wednesday.  Tarbes moved closer to safety with a 59-54 win over Hainaut, which is still at the top of the standings.  The two teams at the bottom met to try and gain the edge for the rest of the season and it was Landerneau with a 72-61 win over Charnay.

On Thursday, Valencia needed a win to keep their season going, but the halftime deficit proved to be too big even as they fought their way back behind Rebecca Allen and Avenida racked up another championship with a 67-62 win with Kahleah Copper being the key again.

The series continued on Thursday with Cukurova staying with Fenerbahce a little longer, but Satou Sabally and Kayla McBride helping the hosts get the same result with a 95-56 win.  Action moves to Mersin on Sunday with a sweep looking more likely than ever.

French League Quarterfinals Game 2 May 10th

All the series continued on Tuesday with the hosts trying to force deciding games on Friday and the visitors hoping to finish sweeps.  Bourges was in position for the sweep early, but Sydney Wallace and Lattes Montpellier completed a comeback to win 75-72 and make the top seed host a deciding game.  After trailing for a large portion of the opener, Villeneuve quickly took the lead against Angers, but nearly gave it up late before hanging on to a 72-70 win.  Tima Pouye and Charleville looked like they would tie the series early, but Kendra Chery and Landes had a strong second half to win 79-72 and advance.  Kayla Alexander and Lyon finished the day doubling up Roche 108-54 to finish their sweep.

Play continued in this group on Tuesday.  Hainaut had the lead in the standings, but did not play well in the opener, taking no chances of being dragged into the fight as Peyton Williams led them to a 71-52 win.  Two teams tied at the bottom faced off with Ana Tadic leading Tarbes to a 60-52 win over Landerneau.

The championship series started on Tuesday with some intrigue about how it would go.  Elizabeth Williams and Kayla McBride helped Fenerbahce turn it into a rout early with Cukurova not filling their foreign player spots and losing 90-55.  The second game of the series will be in Istanbul on Thursday before moving to Mersin on Sunday.

The championship series started on Sunday in Salamanca and hosts Avenida had the better first half before needing to grind out the rest of the game to win 55-44 behind Kahleah Copper.  Valencia will host on Thursday to try to extend the series.

All four series started on Saturday with the next games slated for Tuesday.  Landes hosted the first game of the day and rolled past Evelyn Akhator and Charleville 87-64.  Sydney Wallace and Lattes Montpellier troubled the top seed Bourges for a quarter before losing 99-67.  Jolene Anderson and Villeneuve got quite a fight from Angers, but broke it open late for a 96-79 win.  Sara Chevaugeon and Lyon put on an offensive clinic in the first half, but Tiffany Clarke and Ornella Bankole helped Roche made it closer in the second half before losing 92-77.

This format returned to determine which team would drop down a division this season.  The teams will play a double round-robin with the results between the teams, but not against other teams, retained to start the standings for this phase.  Landerneau started in the danger zone once the new standings were created, but opened up with a 71-52 over Hainaut.  Charnay took advantage of being closer to the rest of the teams after finishing at the bottom of the overall league standings and won their first game 70-48 against Tarbes.  The teams will all play again on Tuesday.
