Polish League Round 15 January 6th-9th

On Wednesday, Sarah Sagerer and Torun beat Stephanie Jones and Sleza Wroclaw 68-63 in a Round 13 game.  The last Round 10 game was also played in Gdynia as the trio of Laura Miskiniene, Alice Kunek, and Marissa Kastanek got the hosts past Aaryn Ellenberg-Wiley, Keisha Hampton, and Polkowice.  A full round of games was played on Saturday.  Julia Tyszkiewicz and Nikola Dudasova led Sleza Wroclaw past GTK Gydnia 109-59.  Briahanna Jackson had a good game for Torun, but Bydgoszcz left with an 85-63 win.  Arka Gdynia found themselves in another close game as Sydney Wallace went off for Zaglebie Sosnowiec, but still won 85-78.  Shatori Walker-Kimbrough helped Gorzow force overtime, but Jennifer O’Neill and Morgan Bertsch and Lublin won 79-78.  Poznan beat the Gdansk University of Technology 68-55.

Israeli Cup Quarterfinals December 31st-January 7th

Three of the quarterfinals were played last Thursday.  Sequoia Holmes led Elitzur Holon past Hapoel Petah Tikva 66-57.  Alex Harden and Maccabi Ramat Hen edged Jackie Young and Ramat Hasharon 72-68.  Elitzur Ramla did not ease up against Kaela Davis and Maccabi Raanana, rolling 111-69 behind Betnijah Laney and Drew Edelman.  The last game was played one week later as Khadijiah Cave and Maccabi Ashdod eased to a 91-65 win over Feyonda Fitzgerald and Maccabi Haifa.

A game from Round 12 was played on Sunday as Hradec Kralove beat Stella Tarkovicova and Ostrava 96-78.  On Tuesday, everyone got in the act for Brno in a 103-53 win in Trutnov.  KP Brno also won, getting past Petra Malikova and Slovanka 85-56.  On Wednesday, Klara Vojtikova and Hradec Kralove beat Slavia Praha 77-62.  Brionna Jones led USK Praha as they crushed Chomutov 124-35.

On Sunday, Maccabi Haifa was finally back to having a full complement of imports and Teana Muldrow had a good game, but Kaela Davis and Joyner Holmes helped Maccabi Raanana leave with an 86-68 win.  Two games could not be played on Monday.  Tiffany Mitchell and Elitzur Ramla rolled past Hapoel Petah Tikva 86-52.  Maccabi Ashdod got good games from Danielle Adams and Alexis Peterson and a professional debut from Michelle Cohen in an 89-80 win over Chelsea Nelson, Sidney Cook, and company as Hapoel Ironi Rishon Lezion finished shuffling their lineup.  Testing came through in time to play the last two games on Tuesday.  Maccabi Ramat Hen edged Ramat Hasharon 73-71.  Marina Mabrey and Victoria Macaulay had good games for Herzliya and Noga Peleg Pelc had a strong debut after deciding to leave college for her home country, but they lost Shae Kelley and Elitzur Holon 75-67.

Spanish League Round 19 January 3rd-5th

Just as it looked like the league was going to be completely on schedule again, games were affected left and right, leaving four games on Sunday.  Avenida started the new year with another win, getting past Laura Quevedo and Araski 76-65.  Zamarat did move in the right direction in their difficult attempt to escape danger, beating Sedis 68-58.  Angie Bjorklund helped Gernika leave Lugo with a 78-66 win over Ensino.  Bembibre also moved towards safety with a 66-63 win over Zaragoza despite a great game from Markeisha Gatling for the visitors.  The final count of games that could not be played was three, but testing did come through in time for Valencia to beat Clarinos 98-60 on Tuesday.

All games were played as scheduled on Sunday, starting with Bologna’s 82-65 win over Costa Masnaga.  Ragusa beat Empoli 69-57.  Jolene Anderson and San Martino di Lupari edged Lucca 73-71.  Marida Orazzo fired Broni past Vigarano 72-63.  Paulina Hersler and Battipaglia were finally able to return to play, but lost to Kennedy Burke, Sierra Calhoun, and Sassari 94-72.  The day ended with Venezia staying perfect after a 91-49 win over Sesto San Giovanni.

A game from Round 18 was brought forward to last Sunday and Alice Kunek led Arka past GTK 105-56 in a battle of Gdynia teams.  Arka Gdynia got an unexpected test from Chucky Jeffery and Bydgoszcz, but stayed the league favorites with a 68-64 win on Wednesday.  Sydney Wallace had an impressive game, but Keisha Hampton helped Polkowice leave Sosnowiec with a 93-76 win in a Round 13 game.  This round started on Saturday with Polkowice rolling past Torun 79-34.  The rest of the games were on Sunday as Gorzow came back to beat the Gdansk University of Technology 78-72.  Sydney Wallace and Jessica January had big games for Zaglebie Sosnowiec, but Shante Evans and Bydgoszcz won 82-77.  Laura Miskiniene and Arka Gdynia found themselves challenged again, this time by Morgan Bertsch and Lublin, but won 85-78.  Daria Marciniak led Poznan in a 76-58 win over GTK Gdynia.

A new round started on Saturday with Maja Skoric and Szekszard fending off Barbara Angyal and Csata 87-83.  On Sunday, Sopron left Ujbuda with a 77-52 win over BEAC.  Beatrice Mompremier paced Gyor in a 97-63 win over Pecsi.  Keyona Hayes led DVTK past PEAC 71-66.  Katerina Sotiriou helped Cegled withstand MTK’s trio of Reka Bernath, Chanise Jenkins, and Alisia Jenkins to hang on to a 93-89 win.  Petra Szabo had a big games for ZTE, but Vasas won 86-62.

A full round of games was played on Sunday.  Shavonte Zellous led Cankaya University, but they were able to finally get their bench some time in a 119-64 win over Stephanie Madden and Samsun.  Jasmine Thomas and Fenerbahce beat Adana 106-71 as the hosts also added a new piece to the puzzle for the ambitious plans for the season.  Galatasaray’s roster is in flux again, but Pelin Bilgic fired them past Orman 67-56.  Crystal Bradford and Angela Salvadores led Besiktas, but Aysa Cora and Botas won 82-68.  Ty Harris paced Kayseri in an 80-75 win over Jordin Canada and Hatay.  The trio of Jelena Dubljevic, Kelsey Mitchell, and Emma Cannon lifted Elazig past Erica Wheeler and Izmit 91-82.  Kristine Anigwe and Liudmyla Naumenko picked up the slack for Cukurova in a 91-84 win over Shey Peddy, Ruthy Hebard, and Nesibe.

Xinjiang needed a win on Sunday to extend the series and had a lead heading into the last quarter as Wu Di, who had a fairly quiet season, emerged.  Inner Mongolia took the lead again in the final frame and the trio of Yang Liwei, Li Yueru, and Huang Sijing got them a 93-82 win and the championship in their second season of existence.
