Chelsey LeeThe Korean league finally got underway this Saturday with two teams who finished fifth and sixth last season. Very much improved this game needed overtime to decide its winner. Hana Bank defeated Winnus KDB by four in the extra period despite their star Charde Houston fouling out. Pierson had a dominant game but it wasn’t enough to give KDB their first win of the season.

Czech Republic Round 9

USK Praha got great news this round from their win over Karlovy Vary as Sonja Petrovic took the court for the first time this season.  Also in Sunday games, Nymburk remained undefeated by beating Slovanka and Krystal Vaughn had the strongest individual performance in an overwhelming win for Slavia Praha against winless Strakonice.  Earlier on Saturday, Kara Trutnov beat Brno to keep pace with the teams at the top of the standings.  Hradec Kralove won at Valosun Brno and a battle of teams trying to climb from the bottom of the standings saw VS Praha beat Ostrava. WNBA champion Renee Montgomery has finally arrived in Australia. She will be suiting up for The UC Capitals who are currently in last place in the WNBL. After having problems with obtaining her visa head coach Carrie Graf is excited about her arrival so that she can help the team bring home their first win of the season. In her debut on Saturday she scored nine points in 21 minutes of play. They took in another loss against The Melbourne Boomers. UC fans hope                                                                                                                  Montgomery can help turn the Capitals season                                                                                            around.

Chinese League Round 6 October 31st

It is now past the midway point of the first portion of the season in China.  Xinjiang remains the only unbeaten team, keeping Heilongjiang winless 96-58. Beijing tries to keep pace in the North as they beat Liaoning 66-53.  Shanxi continues to await their star as they lost 59-56 to Shenyang.  In the South, the two teams at the top are still tied.  Guangdong beat Henan 81-66 and Elizabeth Cambage was the leading scorer of the round again as Shanghai beat Bayi 82-75.  Jiangsu kept Shandong winless with an 81-60 win.

Powerhosue Wasserburg stayed undefeated, but it is one of the newcomers that continues to impress as Keltern survived a tough game to also move to 7-0.  In a battle of winless teams, it was the other new team in the league, Osnabruck, that lost to Oberhausen.  Herner and Saarlouis got wins to keep pace with the top teams and Halle stays in the top half of the standings after a win.

Polish League Round 7

A clear separation in the standings has developed between the top and bottom half of the league.  There were several close games between the halves, but Wisla Krakow and Lublin remained tied for first.  Sleza Wroclaw beat Artego Bydgoszcz in a battle between top half teams.  Gdynia and Polkowice beat teams from the lower half.  Renee Taylor was the leading scorer of the round again as Poznan beat Siedlce in the only game between teams in the lower half of the standings.

The round started with a Conquero home game on Friday as they beat Bembibre.  Saturday games included the two EuroLeague teams and finalists from last year winning as Girona won at Gipuzkoa and Avenida welcoming CREF to the top division.  Gernika kept pace with the leaders after beating Ferrol.  Traditionally strong Gran Canaria continued their struggles as Promete headed to the island and won.  Sunday action started in Zaragoza, where the hosts beat Cadi La Seu.  The weekend closed with Zamarat handing league newcomers Azkoitia another loss to keep them winless.

There are now only two unbeaten teams after Nadezhda won at Dynamo Kursk with a strong performance from Kayla McBride.  UMMC had an easier time against Enisey.  Chevakata remains at the top of the standing by virtue of playing more games as they brought MBA to Vologda and won.  Spartak Moscow kept pace with the teams at the top as young phenom Maria Vadeeva turned in another strong performance in a win over Kazanochka.  A battle of winless teams went to Dynamo Moscow which got a solid effort from Tatyana Burik to offset Dynamo GUVD’s Canadian duo.  Energy Ivanovo beat Spartak Noginsk as Viktoria Medvedeva scored more points than any player this round.

Italian League Round 5

The early game saw Cagliari use a tremendous performance from Samantha Prahalis to beat Torino and win their first game.  In the main timeslot, the highlight was the undefeated battle between Schio and Venezia with powerhouse Schio prevailing 82-80 in overtime.  Lucca stayed undefeated by beating Napoli, whch is still trying to figure things out with their full roster.  Umbertide handed Ragusa its first loss of the season with Meighan Simmons leading the way.  Battipaglia left the group of winless teams by beating San Giovanni.  Vigarano is now the only winless team after a close loss to San Martino.  Parma beat Orvieto in a game between two teams in the middle of the standings.
