After the cup was not held last season due to pandemic concerns, it resumed this year with games played in Mersin. The first quarterfinal on Tuesday saw the duo of Alaina Coates and Kamile Nacickaite lead Nesibe past Victoria Macaulay and Bursa 91-80. The great rivals met next and Kelsey Plum was trying to lift Galatasaray to another upset of her first overseas team, but Fenerbahce did enough in the second half for a 74-68 win. A terrific battle in the paint started quarterfinals on Wednesday and it was Teaira McCowan and Orman that got past Jelena Dubljevic and Botas 85-77. DeWanna Bonner and Cukurova rolled to an 81-58 win over Hatay. Both semifinals were played on Thursday and it was Kayla McBride who took the lead for Fenerbahce after a lineup change in a 74-66 win over Nesibe. Cukurova also had a lineup change, but kept DeWanna Bonner and Temi Fagbenle as they found themselves in a tough battle as Orman gave Teaira McCowan tons of help before falling short 96-93. That set up the highly-anticipated final on Saturday with important lineup choices for both teams with so many options, but neither naturalized Turk. Fenerbahce went with their preferred lineup and Cukurova made a tweak and it was the upstarts that got the win 71-58 behind DeWanna Bonner and Temi Fagbenle to win the trophy and send a message that they can also contend for the league.
