Issues with getting Russia into the United States meant that only three of the teams could actually play at the chosen site. The tournament was scheduled differently than the others with the United States automatically qualifying and then Belgium and Puerto Rico needing time to travel to Santo Domingo for their games against Russia. Those two teams opened the tournament on Thursday with Belgium pressing their advantage in the paint and feeding the ball to Kyara Linskens in a 98-65 win, although Puerto Rico was happy to see Arella Guirantes integrate well into the lineup now that she is available for them. A new look United States team took the court on Friday and looked solid in an 84-75 win over Belgium. Saturday’s game held no surprises as the United States built a big lead early and then cruised to a 93-55 win to finish their tournament with Puerto Rico needing to hit the road for their last game.
