With only the championship left on the minds of the teams, the semifinals were played on Friday. Brazil’s height and experience stifled the United States early, but the younger team surged out of halftime to take the lead on their way to a 71-60 win. Puerto Rico had a good start in front of the home fans in the second game, but Canada tied it by the break, leading to an excellent second half where the hosts built a lead and then held it in dramatic fashion late to win 65-61.
