The cup started with its traditional format on Friday in Gdynia with three teams having the added difficulty of a quick turnaround from the end of the regular season. Megan Gustafson’s efforts were not enough for Gorzow as they lost the first game to Lublin 70-66. As is usually the case, the sixth team is from the second division and it was Polonia Warszawa this season that lost their game to Bydgoszcz 83-53. Alice Kunek fired the hosts past Morgan Bertsch and Lublin 85-81 in the first semifinal on Saturday, but Gdynia will continue to be wary of other teams as they try to sweep the domestic trophies. The other game was also a good one as Aaryn Ellenberg-Wiley and Polkowice just edged Shante Evans and Bydgoszcz 70-68 late. On Sunday, Aaryn Ellenberg-Wiley and Keisha Hampton built a lead early for Polkowice, but Artemis Spanou and Gdynia fought back in the second half to win 69-65 to grab the title.
