All series tipped off on Wednesday in a two game format this year with both games at the same site. There was no shortage of rivalry games in this round, starting with the day’s first game in Sopron that saw Brittney Griner lead Ekaterinburg past Dynamo Kursk 80-67 in the battle of Russian powerhouses. Over in Salamanca, Turkey’s premier rivalry and one of the best in the world had Epiphanny Prince try to keep Galatasaray in the picture, but Alina Iagupova was brilliant for Fenerbahce in a 91-74 win. The one non-rivalry matchup was back in Sopron and more shine was taken off of it with Lyon missing a key player as Gabby Williams helped the hosts stay perfect with a 94-66 win. The day ended with Avenida bouncing back and getting some revenge on league rivals Girona with a 74-66 win. With both games being played in the same place, it remains to be seen whether Friday’s second legs will produce any different results.
