Chinese League Round 1 October 1st-3rd

The new season started on Thursday as the league underwent significant changes in the offseason, including the loss of the military team.  Foreign players will not be playing and the regular season has been arranged as a single round-robin in one bubble location for the first month followed by a break and a separate bubble location.  As a result, each round will be played over several days instead of all on the same day because only one game can be played at a time.  Teams have made major roster changes for domestic players and teams that finished the previous season lower in the standings have an advantage in being able to sign players from Taiwan.

Few teams had as significant losses as Beijing and they lost the opener to Jiangsu 85-68.  Shandong breezed past Heilongjiang 101-51.  Sichuan was able to bring in Beijing’s star duo and sign one of the best players from Taiwan and it looked good in the first game as Shao Ting led them past Wang Lili and Xinjiang 87-81.  On Friday, Shanghai benefited from being able to sign Peng Szu-Chin from Taiwan as they beat Tianjin 88-60.  Inner Mongolia also continued to raid the rosters of other teams and finished poorly enough last season to sign a player from Taiwan as Li Yueru led them past Hebei 103-59.  Chen Yen-Yu helped Shaanxi shake off a slow start and beat Li Xiu and Hubei 80-78 in a game featuring players from Taiwan on both sides.  On Saturday, Guangdong showed how the offseason had transformed them from championship favorites to a middle of the pack team after they lost to Zhejiang 84-68.  Wu Tongtong fired Shanxi past Henan 76-70.
