The annual Queen’s Cup started in Salamanca with a pair of quarterfinals on Thursday. The first was a Basque Country rivalry game as Nikolina Milic and Julie Wojta helped Gernika force overtime, but Araski won 83-80. There was far less drama in the other game as hosts Avenida dispatched Ensino 89-43. The other two quarterfinals were on Friday, starting with Girona edging Sedis 56-51. Meiya Tirera and Valencia dominated the fourth quarter to come back and beat Clarinos 69-54. Both semifinals were on Saturday, starting with Avenida beating Araski 60-45. Girona pulled away from Valencia late to set up the expected matchup in the final. On Sunday, Avenida had the homecourt advantage, but Girona had the psychological edge with their recent success in their head-to-head matchups. Tiffany Hayes made sure that the fans would go home happy though, leading the way in a 76-58 win.
