Russian League Round 1 September 29th-October 7th

The various competitions that the teams are involved in caused three scattered partial rounds at the beginning of the season.  It all started last Sunday with Dynamo Kursk beating Dynamo Moscow 101-57.  Both of last Monday’s games ended up being good ones.  Daria Kolosovskaya had an excellent game for Enisey, but Spartak Moscow left Krasnoyarsk with a 74-72 win as the visitors got a strong professional debut from Morgan Bertsch and a first overseas game for Paris Kea.  Nadezhda is still waiting for their whole roster to assemble, but needed Karina Nizamova to save them from what would have been an embarrassing result in Noginsk against Marina Karpunina and Spartak, leaving with a 71-68 win.  Ekaterinburg is not at full strength yet, but the post duo of Brittney Griner and Maria Vadeeva led the way in a 92-56 win over Dynamo Moscow on Wednesday.  Dynamo Novosibirsk is still waiting for their key players to arrive and it showed on Thursday when they lost to Dynamo Kursk 86-22 to open their season.  Nadezhda did get their Canadian and another key player, but still battled to beat Enisey 60-52.  Paris Kea led Spartak, but MBA continued to be the leading Moscow team as Elizaveta Komarova helped them win 90-80.  Sunday’s games brought a surprise as it took three overtimes for Tatiana Vidmer and Dynamo Kursk to overcome pesky Spartak Moscow.  Albina Razheva and Nadezhda used a strong second half to beat MBA 82-66.  On Monday, Spartak Noginsk barely had any time to get over their disappointment before facing Brittney Griner and Ekaterinburg, losing 99-61.
