The tournament for the championship of Africa started in Dakar on Saturday as the top six teams will advance to the next stage of Olympic qualifying. Defending champions Nigeria had a strong start in Group B with a 75-26 win over Tunisia. Kenya had some late concerns about whether they would be able to make it to the tournament and are only carrying ten players on their roster, but they did make it and lost to Mozambique 55-39 in Group D. Mali pulled away late to beat Angola 71-63 in Group C. The final game of the day saw hosts Senegal beat the Ivory Coast 77-36.
