The Queen’s Cup moved to an eight team format with two quarterfinals on each of the first two days.  Girona debuted a strengthened roster on Thursday, but just edged out Meiya Tirera and Valencia 52-49.  Araski got an early boost from playing at home with Binta Drammeh leading the way, but Andrea Vilaro and Sedis came back to win 66-60.  The other two quarterfinals were played on Friday with the winners needing to win three games in three days to capture the trophy.  Avenida beat Al-Qazeres first 102-63.  With the tournament in Basque Country, it was only appropriate for the two big local teams to face one another and it was Courtney Williams proving to be a timely addition for Gernika in an 83-70 win as Lyndra Weaver and Oumoul Sarr paced Gipuzkoa.  Saturday’s semifinals started with a breakout game for Julia Reisingerova in an 80-60 Girona win over Sedis.  Gernika knew that they would have a tough task, but having a key player go ice cold against Avenida meant that they had no chance in a 74-46 loss.  On Sunday, there was more than a trophy at stake as both teams will be competing on multiple fronts for the rest of the season and each was looking for an edge.  Avenida built a lead early and it held up even as the game remained close with club legend Erika De Souza securing the 79-71 win.
