Group A:

Slovakia knew that a win at home in Ruzomberok would lead to them advancing, but Barbora Balintova’s effort was not enough as Montenegro got production from the naturalized player spot as Glory Johnson led them to an 82-68 win and qualification.  Attention turned to Reykjavik, where Hildur Kjartandottir and Helena Sverrisdottir wanted to get one win for the home fans despite Iceland’s elimination, but Bosnia and Herzegovina fought back and won 84-74, which was well short of the required margin to qualify.

Group B:

A Belarus win in Kayseri would mean that both teams advanced automatically and that is what happened as Turkey led in the first half and then surrendered it to fall 60-56.  The two eliminated teams met in Bydgoszcz and Poland beat Estonia 82-51.

Group C:

Hungary hoped that Russia would take it easy in Ekaterinburg and allow both teams to advance, but Raisa Musina and company did not oblige, winning 56-53.  With the game being the first of the day, they then had to wait for the other games to be played before they could confirm their spot.  Enxhi Xhanaj had a big game for Albania in Kedianiai, but Lithuania showed no mercy in a 146-58 win, getting plenty of scoring from Gintare Petronyte, Egle Siksniute, and Kamile Nacickaite.

The eliminated teams played first and Marie Gulich led Germany past Marielle Giroud and Switzerland 78-52 in Wolfenbuttel.  A win for hosts Belgium in Kortrijk would send both them and the Czech Republic through and they did just that by fending off Romana Hejdova and company 66-62.

The two eliminated teams played first in Zabok and Croatia eased past Macedonia 90-27.  The winner would take the automatic spot in La Spezia and a breakout performance from young Olbis Futo Andre got Italy that 62-56 win over Sweden.

Qualification:

So which teams will join co-hosts Latvia and Serbia?  Group winners Montenegro, Turkey, Russia, Great Britain, France, Spain, Czech Republic, and Italy got the automatic spots.  The three runners up with 5-1 record, Belarus, Slovenia, and Belgium joined them.  That left three spots for 4-2 runners up, which Hungary was at the top of the list for by virtue of having Albania in their group.  Ukraine and Sweden were the next two teams in the ranking, leaving Greece and Bosnia and Herzegovina on the wrong side of the dividing line.
