The second and third place teams in each group started the knockout stages in this round with quarterfinals places and the guarantee of three more games on the line. The teams that qualified from Asia all ended up in the same quadrant of the bracket and the day started with China beating Nako Motohashi and Japan 87-81. The next game was also quite close as Nigeria had a lead only to watch Greece rally late, but still escaped 57-56. France build an early lead on Turkey and it was enough to win 78-61 with Sandrine Gruda’s efficiency leading the way. Hosts Spain did not expect to be in this position and got quite a fight from Senegal before pulling away for a 63-48 win. The teams now get a day of rest before the quarterfinals.
