The top eight teams all headed to Sopron to play the Cup over the weekend with all four quarterfinals on Friday. Nirra Fields and Gyor opened proceedings with a 69-50 win over ZTE. Cegled got big games from Jelena Popovic and Chanel Mokango, but a more balanced effort for Szekszard helped them win 75-71 in overtime. Jelena Milovanovic and Sopron used a fast start to beat Pecs 83-49. The day ended with DVTK beating Pecsi 62-59. Saturday’s semifinals started with Szekszard beating Gyor 77-70. Sopron then breezed past DVTK 82-50. The third place game was first on Sunday as Nirra Fields wrapped up a productive weekend in Gyor’s 73-58 win over DVTK. Sopron had the advantage at home, but youthful Szekszard managed to escape with a 66-64 win, sending a message that they are still contenders when the playoffs start.
