The Turkish Cup continued in its recent format with the top eight teams at the halfway point of the season qualifying for this year’s event in Mardin. The two university sponsored teams met first on Wednesday with Yakin Dogu University easing past Abdullah Gul University 88-53. Botas established a lead in the second half behind Chelsea Gray to beat Alina Iagupova and Cukurova 77-70. Thursday’s games started with Hatay beating Besiktas 79-58. Giorgia Sottana continued to be a welcome addition for Fenerbahce as she helped them past Bria Hartley and Mersin 71-63. The semifinals were played on Friday as Yakin Dogu University beat Botas 79-63. Anastasia Verameyenka had a big game for Fenerbahce, but Hatay got the 65-59 win. The two teams at the top of the standings in league play faced off in the final on Sunday. Kayla McBride and Yakin Dogu University built a lead heading into halftime, opening a big enough margin that Hind Ben Abdelkader and Hatay could not close the gap enough for an 86-79 final.
