The final day of group play was on Wednesday as several teams still needed to qualify, while others were fighting for positioning in the next round. The teams will all rest on Thursday before the knockout rounds start on Friday.
A game between teams set to finish at opposite ends of the standings went to Angola 96-58 despite Abeti Kossi’s best efforts for the Central African Republic. Tunisia knew that they would be eliminated with a loss so they continued to fight, finally prevailing 69-64 in double overtime against the Ivory Coast. That score ended up being good news for Kani Kouyate and company as the loss was not by too much to flip the tiebreakers around. Mali’s 69-35 win over Cameroon created a three-way tie from third through fifth place and it was Tunisia that missed out on the quarterfinals.
