The Queen’s Cup expanded its format this year, going from four teams to six teams in a three day tournament to determine the winner. First half results were used to determine the teams and Girona was chosen to host. Friday’s first game was a good one as Araski came back to edge Ferrol 64-62. Ameryst Alston had a good game in the second half of the doubleheader, but Gernika was able to beat Al-Qazeres 66-54. The hosts started play on Saturday and withstood a scoring burst from Roselis Silva to beat Araski 78-71. Avenida had no issues in their debut as they beat Gernike 72-48. It was the anticipated matchup for the final on the Sunday and another good game between the league powerhouses Avenida and Girona with Silvia Dominguez leading Avenida to the 80-76 win to lift the Copa de la Reina trophy. Ify Ibekwe led the hosts as they came up short in front of a raucous crowd.
