The relative form of the two teams in the last stage set up an interesting matchup for the big series that started on Tuesday to determine the final team to reach the quarterfinals. Heilongjiang had played so well against some tougher than usual teams in the bottom group and had the homecourt advantage for the first game. Shanxi, on the other hand, had slumped in the middle group and had to make an emergency change at the foreigner spot. The game was close throughout, but the visitors took the lead and held on to a 75-72 win behind Tamera Young and Wei Wei. Now Ji Yanyan and Heilongjiang must win on the road on Thursday by a big enough margin to overturn the first game’s result as Shanxi has recovered some momentum.
