Upper Group:

This stage of the competition finished on Tuesday and this group had a lot of important matchups. The top four teams in the group advanced to the quarterfinals and the top group of the next stage.  Shanghai jumped on Henan early with Breanna Stewart and Huang Jing leading the way in an 87-68 win.  Shenyang and Shanxi played knowing that the loser would definitely be in the middle group of the next portion of the season and it was Jin Jiabao and Li Meng who led the military team to the 84-75 win over Wei Wei and Shanxi team that faced disappointment again.  It turned out that both teams would be placed in the middle group as Li Yueru and Guangdong lost 82-59 to Sylvia Fowles and Beijing, but still prevailed in the tiebreaker.

Lower Group:

Nothing was at stake in the last set of games for this group as teams already knew their destinations for next round, although final ranking would determine the order of games in the next stage.  Liaoning got some momentum against a future bottom group opponent as they beat Tina Charles and Sichuan 78-66.  Bayi executed their usual game plan with Sun Mengxin leading the way as they withstood three quarters of efficient play from Crystal Langhorne then dominated the last quarter to beat Heilongjiang 67-63.  Glory Johnson and Xinjiang did not take it easy on Shandong, winning 79-65.  The teams all have a short turnaround as the next set of games will be played on Thursday.
