The round started on Friday with Chemnitz beating Halle 85-77. It was a terrific battle of SEC rookies as Merritt Hempe did not win the scoring battle, but ended up on the winning team. Janee Thompson had a great game in the loss, but did not have quite the volume of help as the next leading scorer was actually a former collegiate rival in the state of Kentucky.
The rest of the games were on Saturday. Melissa Jeltema led Hannover to their first win as they beat Katie Yohn and Marburg 84-69. The other league newcomer was not so lucky as Bad Aibling fell 90-59 to Herner. There may not be a more shocking result in Europe than the one in Keltern as the hosts stunned Wasserburg 73-61, ending a run of domestic dominance that stretched back to March 2, 2014 as Jasmine Thomas led the way. Rotenburg won 69-66 at Donau-Ries despite the best efforts of Kimberly Pierre-Louis. Angela Tisdale, who continues to serve in the military while playing, led Saarlouis to an 85-79 win at Freiburg.
