The Eastern European Women’s Basketball League (EEWBL) was created for professional teams from Central, Eastern and Northern Europe. The group draw for the twelve teams in the EEWBL was conducted on Thursday. The league is making a big push in its second season to become the strongest of the multi-country leagues that does not span the entire continent. In addition to six of the eight teams returning from last season, the league has brought in six new teams including the first representatives for four countries. As a result, the competition will take place with two groups instead of a single round robin among all teams like last year. Defending champions TTT Riga are joined by returnees Tsmoki Minsk and Kibirkstis Vilnius. Lublin joins the group as the second Polish team while Avangard Kiev of Ukraine and Good Angels of Slovakia are the first teams from their country to participate. In the other group, Gdynia, Astana Tigers, and Horizont Minsk are the returnees. Liepaja increases Latvian representation while the two new countries involved are Turkey with Istanbul University and Russia with Dynamo Moscow.
