The four quarterfinal games were played on Friday with the winners automatically headed to the Olympics. While their tournaments would be over, the remaining four teams still had to compete for one spot.
The first game saw Spain jump out to a lead on South Korea and win 70-50, relying on their naturalized player for the first time as Sancho Lyttle worked hard inside. Turkey was the next European team up and they eased past Cuba 71-45 behind their dominant frontcourt of naturalized player LaToya Sanders and fellow former WNBA player Nevriye Yilmaz. Belarus was shaken after their loss on Wednesday and China did not back down, building a big lead in the second half and winning 84-70. Shao Ting led the way in the win as the result was still a surprise. Belarus could only get their two former WNBA player out of their starting five at their best with naturalized player Lindsey Harding and Yelena Leuchanka both being productive. They will need the other three to contribute if they still want to qualify as their lack of depth continues to be tested. Hosts France had no troubles in the last game as Endy Miyem led them to a 90-53 win over Argentina.
