The New York Liberty’s superstar Tina Charles is not just affecting outcomes on the court with her relentless rebounding and her scoring prowess but Tina has a greater cause that brings her passion and it’s affecting people all over the world. Tina Charles’ Hopey’s Heart Foundation was founded in loving memory of her late aunt Maureen “Hopey” Vaz, who died of multiple organ failure. It is Tina’s goal to prevent Sudden Cardiac Arrest from claiming the lives of promising student athletes by supplying eligible schools or recreational centers with life-saving AED equipment. “The Hopey’s Heart Foundation is committed to improving sports safety and raising awareness of Sudden Cardiac Arrest throughout the country.”
For the past two WNBA seasons Tina Charles has donated half of her salary to the Hopey Heart Foundation to purchase more automatic external defibrillators. In an interview with espn last summer Tina talked about her commitment to preventing cardiac arrest in athletes. “Taking an interest in others is key in my life. It’s my way of giving back. My passion of placing AEDs. Anything I can do to impact an institution with an AED is extremely important to me.” Now you too can help bring an AED to a school or a recreational center in need!
Today Charles announced her Hopey’s Heart Foundation Rebound Challenge where you can join Tina and help increase the amount of lifesaving AEDs placed and CPR Certification nationally, by making a match contribution for every rebound made in the 2016 WNBA 20th season.
