Polish Cup Results

Poland uses a hybrid format for the cup, limiting the number of teams but still having a team from leagues below the top division.  The top four teams in the league at the cutoff point automatically qualified and were joined by the predetermined host team Lublin and the University of Warsaw from the second level.  The host and top team in the standings were given a bye into the semifinals.

Action started on Friday with Sleza Wroclaw beating the University of Warsaw 73-42 as new signing Marissa Kastanek gets into rhythm with the team.  Artego Bydgoszcz beat Polkowice 65-49 to also advance to the next round with Elzbieta Miedzik leading the way.

The semifinals were on Saturday.  Sharnee Zoll and Sleza Wroclaw took advantage of shorthanded Wisla Krakow to win 71-65.  Hosts Lublin were helped by home court advantage as they fought back in the fourth quarter to beat Artego Bydgoszcz 71-65 even though Maurita Reid and Darxia Morris had strong games.

The final game on Sunday was filled with storylines.  Sleza Wroclaw was looking to complete the difficult three wins in three days while hosts Lublin were looking to celebrate in front of the home fans.  The hosts took the early lead and that was enough for a 66-58 even though Sharnee Zoll had a great scoring game.  Leah Metcalf was named MVP.
