The WKBL is set to open their 2015-2016 season on October 31, 2015. On Saturday KDB Life will take on KEB Hana, two teams that missed the playoffs last season. Connecticut University standout and former WNBA player Charde Houston, who was the first pick in the WKBL draft this summer will lead the team this season along with former WNBA player Bernice Mosby who is a newcomer to the Korean basketball league. Houston returns for her third season in the WKBL coming off an outstanding campaign last season where she was named the league’s MVP after averaging 17 points and 7 rebounds and winning the league championship as a member of Woori Hansae. Both teams are much improved from last season and look to fight for a position in this season’s playoffs.
Woori Hansae who has won the championship for the past three years is again the team to beat. They look to defend their title as the other five teams have their eyes set on dethroning the champs. Woori Bank has a very talented group of Korean players who are also national team players. In this league that is usually what separates one team from the next. Most times, the two foreigners on each team cancel each other out so which ever Koreans step up this year will likely win the Championship. There are some very talented Korean players throughout the WKBL who are determined to bring their organization a trophy. It will be interesting to see who wins the championship this season.
Here are foreign players suiting up for the WKBL this season;
KB Stars: Natasha Howard and Dearica Hamby
Shinhan Bank S-Birds: Monique Currie and Markeisha Gatling
